BOLT has won a 2006 GOOD DESIGN Award for the design of the Rio Wireless Medical Workstation, manufactured by Rioux Vision. BOLT worked with Rioux Vision's engineering team to develop the industrial design and mechanical engineering of the new Rio, a mobile workstation for the healthcare industry. As hospitals move away from paper charts and towards digital data, nurses require mobile stations that can handle both. The Rio workstation provides wireless capability within a compact mobile workstation, giving the clinician the ability to access information and medication anywhere the patient might be. Nice design touches include rechargeable batteries enclosed in the base (great for weight), a tuck-away keyboard, and "cup holder" spots in the back to accommodate barcode scanners and sanitizing gel. Finally, the circular handles reduce visual mass, yet provide generous horizontal support for large binders and charts.
